Phoenix Rising

I wonder sometimes if the world would ever lack those that are lacking.

"For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, 'You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.'

"The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have Me."
Mark 14:7

Now, reality just hit me in the face.

From grade school to graduate school, i don't think we can ever find a course, subject, module or topic on "HOW TO KICK POVERTY OUT OF OUR SOCIETY";  We ( Africans/Nigerians) ignore what really matters and we are busy chasing the irrelevant we could not master for decades. Pardon me for being a sociopath; for calling most revered 'Education' irrelevant, i could not just hold back my displeasure because we are just wasting our time educating ourselves and thereby fail to affect our society and make our society great with it. Our failure is indirectly increasing the poverty line/threshold in our society.

In 2014, the most recent year of which data are available, the poverty threshold in the United State of America for a family of four was $24, 230. The official poverty was 14.8 percent. There were 46.7 million people in poverty in the United State then according to the data.

If the poverty threshold for a family of four was  $24, 230  per annum in the United State of America, i wonder what the percentage of people living below that would be in Nigeria:A country with the 11th largest oil reserves in the world, averaging 2.28 million barrels per day (362×103 m3/d) in 2006). A country with the official minimum wage of #216,000 per annum which is equivalent $681.38801 per annum.

Day after day; even from dawn to dusk, things are still the same. The hard truth remains; no one is going to teach you 'how to overcome poverty'  but yourself. Our political office holders are having fun; increasing the poverty threshold instead of alleviating it. It is now our duty, ours alone; to knock it down and kick it out of our society. Though, it is not going to be easy but, you have to toughen-up.

Always remember these;

  1. Through the pit and the dungeon, Joseph came to the throne
  2. Ernest Hemingway said that the world breaks all of us, and we grow stronger in broken places.
  3. Our strength grows in weakness
  4. Adversity is the breeding ground for miracles

I promised to be light with this and not get it mix with emotions. so, i stop here for now.
