Seedstars Global Competition for Startup Entrepreneurs 2017 – Up to US$1.5million For Grab

About the Award: On this 2017 edition of the tour, they will visit over 25 cities across Sub-Saharan Africa to host bootcamps and pitch competitions, adding countries such as Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia to its tour. The winner from each country is invited to the final at the Seedstars Global Summit in Switzerland to compete for up to $500,000 in equity investment and additional multiple prizes and perks.

Selection Process: At each Local Event, the top 10-15 pre-selected startups are invited to pitch in front of an expert jury and quality audience to determine the winner. The event brings together key entrepreneurs, investors, corporates and institutions from the local ecosystem combined with a unique global Seedstars World flavour. The winner of each Local Event gets a free trip to the Final Event and loads of cool tech prizes.
The winner of each Local Event will be invited to Switzerland to represent his startup and country at the global finals. The Final Event is a weeklong adventure consisting of a bootcamp, international conference and investor forum. It’s an amazing chance to meet with investors, build a global network and grow your business.

Toyota Foundation International Grant Program 2017

Applications are invited for Toyota Foundation grants for undertaking research projects. The target countries of this program are East and Southeast Asia.

The grant program focuses on deepening mutual understanding and knowledge-sharing among people on the ground in East and Southeast Asia who are finding solutions to shared issues.

Through promoting direct interaction among key players, the grant program aims to survey and analyze situations in target countries, obtain new perspectives, and expand the potential of future generations.

Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Benefits

Grants includes 100 million yen:

One-year project: JPY 5,000,000 (approx. USD 44,500);Two-year project: JPY 10,000,000 (approx. USD 89,000)

Canada-CARICOM Leadership Scholarships Program

The Canada-CARICOM Leadership Scholarships are facilitated through institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements between Canadian institutions and institutions in the CARICOM. These agreements are created between colleges, technical or vocational institutions and universities. Students or researchers, hereby referred to as “candidates”, remain registered as full-time students in their home institution during this exchange. Up to 100 scholarships are awarded every year for a total of over 650 scholarships since 2007.

Canadian post-secondary institutions

Canadian institutions are:
  • responsible for submitting applications on behalf of eligible candidates from institutions in CARICOM member states; and
  • encouraged to promote this scholarship opportunity to faculty and staff members, as well as to partner institutions in the CARICOM.
Canadian institutions with successful candidates:
  • should identify a single person responsible for the administration of the contribution agreement and another person with delegated signing authority; and
  • will receive contribution funding from Global Affairs Canada to disburse as scholarships to recipients.

Non-Canadian candidates

Candidates interested in this scholarship program should contact their home institution to:
  • make their interest known;
  • find out if there is an existing institutional collaboration or exchange agreement with a Canadian institution; and
  • request information about the application process and selection criteria specific to the Canadian institution.
Selected candidates are encouraged to:

  • ensure that they fulfill the requirements of the Canadian institution including academic requirements and language proficiency;
  • initiate the process for the transfer of credits to their home institution as soon as their Canadian courses have been identified;
  • follow the procedures of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada as outlined by the Canadian institution (generally a study permit is required for course work and a work permit is required for research); and
  • contact alumni of the program through their home institution for advice and a local perspective on the scholarship experience.

Non-Canadian institutions

Non-Canadian institutions are encouraged to:
  • communicate with partner institutions in Canada to confirm or explore institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements;
  • promote this scholarship opportunity through their international offices;
  • identify strong candidates who meet the admission requirements for the Canadian partner institution;
  • provide the candidates’ names to the Canadian partner institution, which is responsible for submitting the scholarship applications; and
  • propose to selected candidates to gain additional linguistic training, academic upgrading and cultural preparedness before their departure.

 Benefits

The scholarship value varies depending on the duration and level of study. The scholarship value for students is:
  • $7,200 CAN for college, undergraduate or graduate (Master’s and PhD) students for a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research;
  • $9,700 CAN for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a period of five or six months of study or research; or
  • $14,700 CAN for undergraduate and college students for a period of eight months of study or research.
In addition to the funds allocated to the recipients by DFATD, the Canadian host institution may also claim $300 CAN per scholarship recipient to assist with administrative costs once the scholarship recipient arrives in Canada.

Candidates:
  • who have obtained Canadian citizenship or who have applied for permanent residency in Canada are not eligible;
  • already participating in an exchange scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada are not eligible;
  • already enrolled in a degree or diploma program at a Canadian university or college are not eligible; and
  • must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country and paying any tuition fees regulated by that institution for the full duration of the exchange.

The Canadian institution must apply on behalf of the candidate(s) by submitting the online application form and uploading all supporting documents prior to the deadline. Institutions may submit multiple applications and may be asked to rank their applications, based on their strategic priorities. A single person should be responsible for the administration of the program. Canadian faculty or staff members who are submitting an application must notify the person responsible for the administration of the program at their respective institution as the institution may be requested to rank multiple applications.

Excellence Fellowships for Swiss and International Students in Switzerland, 2017


Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne-EPFL) is offering Excellence Fellowships for 2017 intake. Scholarships are open for all national and international students to pursue masters programme.


EPFL offers a limited number of fellowships at the Master’s level to students with outstanding academic records. Some of the fellowships are financed by EPFL directly and others through partnerships with foundations or companies.

The expected level of command of English may vary depending on the school and, above all, the study program or course, the usual average English language requirement you will be required to have to study in Europe is 550 points (paper-based TOEFL test), or 213 points (computer-based TOEFL test), or 79-80 points (Internet-based TOEFL test), or 5.5 – 6.5 score in the IELTS test.

Course Level: Scholarships are provided for master’s studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne-EPFL).

Study Subject: Scholarships are offered in diverse fields to help students in upgrading their education.

Scholarship Award: It includes-

External

Fellowships for those candidates include:

  • CHF 16’000 per academic year (split into monthly payments), meaning:

CHF 32’000 for a 2-years Master’s(120 credits)

CHF 24’000 for a 1 1/2 year Master’s (90 credits)

  • reservation of a room in students accomodation

(Note that accomodation, tuition fees, visa fees, etc. must be paid by the fellowship’s holder.)

Cumulating this fellowship with other substantial scholarships isn’t possible. Candidates are required to declare all the scholarships they will receive during their master’s and cases will be evaluated one by one.

Internal

Fellowships for those candidates include:

  • CHF 10’000 (split into 2 payments)
  • A certificate of excellence for the results obtained during their Bachelor’s

(Note that accomodation, tuition fees, etc. must be paid by the fellowship’s holder.)

Scholarship can be taken in Switzerland

Eligibility: Anyone applying to an EPFL Master’s Program is eligible. The selection of candidates and the granting of the fellowships is done based solely on the evaluation of the academic records of the candidates.

Nationality: Swiss and International Students are eligible to apply.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have their previous degree.

Test Requirement: No

Application

The application is done via the same online form than your application to a Master’s program. It is however necessary to tick a box indicating that your profile should also be considered for an excellence fellowship.

Internal applications: are reviewed once a year, in May, following the second Master’s programs admission committee.

Application: Candidates should deliver their printed application to their section by April 30.

The application should contain:

  • a recommendation letter from the section’s director
  • a CV
  • a motivation letter
  • a transcript of all grades obtained at EPFL

If you are planning to switch to another section:

You still need a recommendation letter from the director of your section of origin but you must contact the deputy of your future section to introduce yourself. It is the deputy of your future section that will propose your application to the Excellence Fellowships Committee.
